Who am I and what is this about?

My name is Jan. I am a German currently living in the UK. I enjoy writing and publishing on the Internet.

You can read stuff I wrote on the following blogs:

BabelKid - Raising a Multilingual Child
My wife and I blog about the joys and challenges of raising our kids using 4 different languages.
Cool software I will never write
Musings about software I wish I had. Since I do not have the time to write any of these, I document them hoping someone else will.
Berichte aus Frankreich & England
Stories about England & France, as seen by a German. This blog is in German, and it does unfortunately not translate very well.
Immersive Development
A short-lived blog about how I wish programming could be.

My CV / Resume might be of interest.

My Life on a Map

The map on the right shows the stations of my life so far:

I grew up in Hamburg in Northern Germany.

In 1990 I moved to Karlsruhe in Southern Germany, where I studied Computer Sciences at Karlsruhe University.

In 1998 I moved to Antibes, France to finish my studies at Institut Eurécom in Sophia Antipolis, France. I then took up my first job as a developer.

In 2004 I moved to Manchester in the UK. This was supposed to be a temporary move, but I have now been in the UK for 4 years.

Books

I enjoy reading as much as I like writing. So, if you would like to send me a gift, take a look at my Amazon.co.uk wishlist or my Amazon.de Wunschliste.
